I HAVE NO IDEA AS TO AGE OF THIS FRIDGE BUT IT IS VERY CLEAN AND APPEARS TO BE COMPLETE. PROBABLY FROM THE 50'S? I LIKE THE DEDICATED ICE TRAY COMPARTMENTS.

Just a friendly reminder that old refrigerators pose a potential danger and should be "childproofed" because of the door locking mechanism.

From the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission "Refrigerator Safety Act" enacted August 2, 1956:
      http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/pubs/5072.html

According to Todd White's website on vintage Servel gas refrigerators, they were manufactured from 1927 to 1956:

Bought a 300+ yr old great house on the small dutch island in '79 & 1 of these old "kerosene" fridges was in what was referred to locally as the "slave quarters". Of course it wasn't that old but in good condition & after a little work it worked fine. On islands, the power goes out often & it sure came in handy & always worked. Never quite understood how a flame could make something cold though. It was the only fridge I could count on.
Also liked the old Tilley pump-up early Coleman style lamps that used kerosene instead of petrol. Much safer & just as bright. Can't find them anymore.

I have 2 of these gas fridges, not sure if they work, but love the history of something like gas keeping items cold. The look I get when I tell them it's a gas fridge.

Had it explained but don't remember the details. The kerosene mine used was certainly cheaper than elec.. Wish I had one in the garage for hurricanes etc.
