Here's a good one: What language is this? What does it say? It looks similar to Hebrew, but the letters don't match.

The last name isn't much use for determine the language used (as far as I know) as its origins appear to be Germanic.

From the format (four, four-letter words set around a square with lines radiating from it's centre through the corners going outward) I'm wondering if this were some made-up language. As a kid, I created my own alphabet and grammar structure for my own language.

And then the message on the front-- Not Yet, But Soon ?

What did this mean back in 1912?

Intriguing indeed! I have seen "Not yet but soon" as a greeting to couple expecting a child. But it could of course have some quirky second meaning. There was an election 1912, right? Maybe a slogan for the GOP?

Looks like Hebrew characters. Could it be Hanukkah related?

OlofZ, but what would a politic need with a cryptic message penciled in on the back?
As for the front, I'm sure it pairs with an event-- as humans seem concerned with matters of the heart, I wonder if it involved a secret romance. <3

Phonoboy, I'm pretty sure it's not Hebrew, but it may be related. Not many languages use squared letters.

The diagonal lines must have some significance. Have you tried holding a mirror up against them maybe? Then again the characters don't look like they would be recognisable either forwards or reflected backwards. I am stumped.

I had the same thought about the lines. They're not any language I can identify. What a great mystery it is. I wish someone could at least figure the language.

Hi! I stumbled upon "pigpen cipher" the other day and came to think of your postcard. Your actual key is of course hard to guess but here's the principle:
