A recent charity-shop find: A C. WW1 (Copyright 1917) Soldiers of Many Nations Painting Book, with poetical verses.
While it is mainly harmless and glorifies the Allied Nations, it would have to be modified before republication today as it shows an Italian machine-soldier gunning people down from a tree (and a few words with changed meanings).
The main idea of the book is, of course, to teach kids how to paint ("inside the lines") and mix colours to obtain other colours and various shades.
Of other points of interest, it shows various ''Medals of Honor" for each shown soldier and spells "Romania" as "Roumania" still. Interestingly, though American, the first soldier is actually a Swede. In our overly political, obsessively nationalistic America of today, I'm sure someone would whine to the publisher about that (That and the fact that the Artilleryman looks like he's wearing lipstick).
The pricers had, of course, slapped a sticker in the middle of the cover. Though it's a paper-back book (card-stock), I was able to safely remove it.
Interesting post, but isn't it the worst when the sellers put price stickers and scotch tapes on valuable and fragile objects? Seen that way too many times =(
Nicely illustrated book. I hate sticky labels too. You did well to get it off something so old and fragile.
Anna, Elanski, thank you; I do greatly dislike it when a tag goes over any part of something fragile-- but it is especially displeasing when it's on the main view. Of course, they didn't know it was so old.
