With regards to my earlier post seeking information about the gold plated yellow cut glass claret hug I am still seeking information to identify it's age and maker. Does anyone know anything about the head on its handle in the picture I've posted. From the side it looks like a lion but from front on it looks nearly inhuman. The hallmarks were very hard to read which makes me curious as wether it has indeed been tampered with but it is truly astounding the letters and numbers and small pictorial marks that are on this jug. It is covered in letters and numbers that appear in no particular order. It is easy to think perhaps this jug is retro 1960s but the jugs from this particular time are replications and they don't have the head on the handle. I believe the only date I can see in here is 1868 bit I cannot clarify this yet. I have looked at thousands of jugs in my search for information but have failed to find one of this golden colouring. Any information or guidance on this jug would be truly welcoming as I am desperate to know it's origin and history. None of these marks are visible with the naked eye and I believe I have identified the top as being 14 K gold which is why it has a few tarnish marks. I believe this to be older then it may appear at first glance and look forward to hearing from anybody who thinks they may be able to point me in the right direction as it has become quite an obsession of mine.
It is interesting wuzzy, but not much detail on the handle, makes me think that it's a reproduction piece. I think a photograph of the bottom of the Claret may help someone, to give more information on this piece, and maybe a link to each of your other posts, to make it easier to see the whole Claret. A better 1st picture, to catch your attention, may bring more knowledge too! :^D Thanks for posting though! :^)
Thank you for your response billretirecoll. Can I just clarify that the lettering and numbering all over the handle and the numbers and letter inside the neck are amazing. I have been able to get a clearer look at this with the zoom and shadow filter I have on my smart phone. It is truly unbelievable also I noticed with the similar looking reproductions on anything remotely simiilar is lacking in detail with regards to the tiny leaf inside the inside rim of the stopper finial which I will photograph for you. I will also get an overall shot and a shot of the letters and numbers all over this jug. It truly is something to make me wonder who put all of this detail into it and I just feel it has something special about it which is what I'm dying to find out. Thank you for your response billretirecoll much appreciated.
