This fine model was only sold for three years before being replaced by the next fire chiefs car the Ford Galaxie. See photo four for the Ford Galaxie.
The Fire Chief Car and the Police Car used the same casting in either the Fairlane or the Galaxy. The difference was paint, decals and a different color light. Once more see photo #4. Also it is a good examples have how Matchbox models grew. Grew as in size.
The original Matchbox toys were even smaller than the Fairlane. They had to be able to fit inside an actual matchbox as that was a rule at British schools. Any toy a child brought to school had to fit inside a matchbox. I could have written that better but it is getting late.

A classic era for Matchbox. I got my first Matchbox(bulldozer) at a hospital gift shop around '64. I had never heard of them. I don't tbink the toy store I used to go to ever cartied them. I was immediately impressed by their quality.
