Antique bidet with manufacturer’s markings and extremely unusual artwork but I’m unsure as to it’s manufacturer or age. Possibly Dutch Delft. If anyone knows what the manufacturer’s marks represent I would greatly appreciate any enlightenment! Thank you!
An eye !!!!! LMFAO !
Is this a Rebus ?
There is Petrus Regout, but his mark is a black oval with his name inside it for the Victorian wares, and a sphinx on a slab for the 1920s export marks. This may not be an export piece, so left with only one initial D. This might represent one of the decor names he used in 1891 or so, Delfts, according to my pottery mark reference book.

Agree it appears to be a Rebus: I --- Pan ?
Could it mean "I Straddle the Pan"?
Eye gut this one,,.. its called "Bulls Eye" ....lol .......pretty cool
Who could pee here - With an Eye looking at you ??
Is it a japs eye ? It's great whatever it is.
Looks like a masonic design, the all seeing eye + woman riding the devil.
That is lovely
Hi,
Your post is two years old, so fingers crossed. May be the use of Pan was a pun. anyway its great.. I bought one today very similar but Pan was chasing the naked lady. Can you supply any details that you have found out about the piece.. Thanks in advance..
Hi Davidjohn46,
I’m sorry to say that I was never able to positively identify the manufacturer of my bidet. I did see the one that you described purchasing by someone on Instagram with the name of jewelswithapast on the delfblauw page. This person said that it’s an early 20th century delft bidet. I also requested information on some Facebook pages and one person there stated that it is Delft. All of this leads me to think that the bidets are Delft but I don’t have full confidence in that verdict. Where did you find yours? I found mine in an antique store in Waynesville, Ohio. Did yours also have a wooden stand with it? Please share any additional information that you might have. I really love these pieces!
Thanks for the prompt reply.. I bought my piece in the Dordogne area of South West France.. I put it at early 19th Century, possibly french provincial; could be delft but that's just an obvious colour reference I think..also the stand it came with was no way early twentieth century.. it is the same for stand that accompanies your piece. It is the monogramme 'D' that interests me, difficult to pin down..
There are English delftware examples of figures being used, though the example above is in no way of English origin..
Davidjohn46, does yours also have the impressed number 3 with what looks like a capital A after it?
Antiqueslove,
3A impressed mark yes..
Ironically enough the first delftware ( of dutch origin of course) was in imitation of Chinese techniques, and another irony when it caught on the Chinese and Japanese produced there own "delftware" to sell to the European markets.
It was not uncommon to have a eye painted at such a place. I have seen antique Bourdaloue's with an eye or a statue of Napoleon on the bottom.
If you don't know what a bourdaloue take look at this link:

That was interesting mp.kunst. Had a bidet in Montego Bay that shot water up almost a metre. A girlfriend fell in luv with it and wouldn't let me adjust it. She had quite an affair with it. LOL !
mp.kunst
Yes the eye was common decoration in the base of many toilet items throughout the 19th century and earlier, I presume bourdaloue is the french version of a chamber pot..
