Guestimating this snake to maybe 4 feet long. Not all that long but it is very thick with a large head. The Southern Pacific rattlesnake is also about 4 feet long but I do not recall the head being that large. This one has a greenish tinge so I was thinking Mojave Green but the pattern doesn't quite match. But then rattlesnakes and other snakes have variations with patterns. That is a sign that as species go they are more recent.
This is an old school piece of taxidermy using a body form. Now snakes like this would be freeze dried. Looks like it will need a new rattle but those available online.
The thing about baby rattlesnakes being more dangerous is not true. A snake this size would leave more venom on a dry bite than a foot long one could possibly inject. The size difference in the venom sac is logarithmic. Plus fangs would be much larger and inject much deeper. The remaining fang on this one is about 1/2 inch long and a bit more under the gum line.
I didn't have much room for this piece but will make room for something this unusual. Buy the unusual as they say.

Beautiful job on this rattler fort, I think the old school way is the best, he looks alive & ready to strike - yowza!

I'm somehow really amused by the thought of a rattle being available online. How many people would need one?!
I am sure there are many who would have trouble entering your house with this rattler on guard Fort, ophidiophobia is quite common, and this one looks ALIVE.

This is very cool! The rattlesnakes in our part of the country are a bit darker in color and longer. I think they call ours Timber Rattlers. I have a Franz Bergman snake charmer with a cobra wrapped around him. I'll have to post that one.

That's a cool Rattle Snake Brian! Word around here in the S.F. Bay Area, to the Foot Hills, is a high danger for Rattlers this year, but maybe they say that every year! :^)

Thank you very much racer4four. There are many rattlesnake rattles online and they are not free so there is a demand to go with the supply. Go figure.

Thank you very much Scott. Here we have the Southern Pacific, Mojave and Western Diamond Back. There may be others. Oddly I haven't seen any here yet but others have. By here I mean by on my property. The only snake I saw here was a scarlet king snake.

Thank you very much Ms.CrystalShip. I actually like seeing them but at a safe distance. Seeing one at my feet unnerves me a bit.

Thank you very much Thomas. Luckily we have a closer hospital of sorts that Life Flights all serious cases to a real hospital. Our Mojave Green has the most toxic of all venoms of the rattlers luckily they tend to be small.

Thank you very much Bill. We get the same thing. No rain more rattlesnakes. tons of rain lots of rattlesnakes. There is never really any change.

My son and I just got back from Black Oak Casino, in Sonora, Calif. by Yosemite, and never saw a snake of any kind, that had been run over, but we didn't walk around in the rocks, and tempt fate either! Still a lot of wildflowers out though, it was a nice day trip! :^)

Thank you very much Bill. They do like their rocks.
It's a good time to drive up and down the front side of the mountain. Lots of flowers that will soon be gone.
