I got this antique Pikes Peak 16 page Travel Booklet and Map at the Flea Market, the same day that I found the S.S. Monterey 1939 Menu. I guess that I must have been thinking about traveling somewhere, or something, but I think both were very good buys! :^D

I got this information from AbeBooks, but it's on the next to the last page in the Book:

Pikes Peak Colorado Springs- Manitou, Colorado
    Cockerell, T. D. A.;Schreider, E. C.
Published by: Pikes Peak Auto Co./Manitou & Pikes Peak Railway 1903

Scarce Pikes Peak Highway and Railroad Booklet. Very good gray color pictorial stapled booklet. Light wear, creased corner. (Sept. 18, 1903), 8vo, [unpaginated 16pp.] 19.5 x 22cm. Revised by E. C. Schreider. 40 black & white illustrations, 6 color illustrations, maps: 1. contour map of Pikes Peak Region, 2. Pike's Peak elevation and zones, 3. rear cover topography map. Cog Road Summer Time table. "This wonderful new auto road, running through the Pike National Forest to the very tip point of Pikes Peak, twenty to fifty feet wide, with an average grade of seven per cent and a maximum grade of ten and one-half percent, smooth and even as pavement, is undoubtedly the grandest scenic highway in the world."

The first photo is the front cover.
The next photo is page 10 and 11
The third is page 14 and 15
The last photo is the back page 16, and the map op Pikes Peak
The map is a way to tell if this book is 1903, or the later reprint of this booklet, printed in the 1930's I think!

Thank you for looking, and all comments are welcome! :^)

Thanks for your comment keramikos, yes at 115 years old, the book's held up well! This must have been quite a job, to build this road in 1903, but I'm sure it paid for itself many times over, with the amount of tourists that paid to use it, even in the very first years! :^D

Thank you for the love keramikos, and Vynil33rpm too, much appreciated! :^)

Most people don't think of high mountains in the Caribbean. Pike's Peak is really impressive at 14,000', but it's base is at 5-6,000' above sea level. Some hundreds of miles from me in The Dominican Republic, a mountain rises to 10,000'. Point ? That's coming out of the ocean at sea level ! Boats have wrecked on shore thinking that the dark shade in the sky was a storm. Just trivia, or interesting, but worthless information !
