This outfit is similar to that in the Norman Rockwell painting Tomorrow's Leader. That is the painting used for the calendar seen in the first photo. The painting was done in 1959 which is about the time the colorless uniform shirt appeared. No one seems to be quite sure when the collarless shirt was created but we know it was around in 1959.
It may be difficult to see but there are tassels at the top of the knee socks. I posted the socks, tassels and garters a couple weeks back.
In photo #3 there is the patrol emblem on the right shoulder and the Den Chief Cord. To get this award one must serve as a Den Chief for one year. A Den Chief is a Boy Scout who works with a Cub Scout den which is a bit obvious. While serving as Den Chief the scout can where the Den Chief patch on the left shoulder. This scout though is the scribe which leads to the next paragraph.
This is the next paragraph. On the left sleeve is the Scribe Patch. Scribe would be basically the secretary at the troop level. On the left pocket is the Life Scout patch which would be the rank. That is the second highest rank of a scout the highest being eagle. Above the pocket are the service pins. He has a 3 year cub pin and 1 year and 4 year scout pins (because that is what I have). Special thanks again to Bill for the pins. Also there is the Arrow of Light patch which is Cub/Webelos patch that one gets to carry over to the Boy Scout uniform.
Also around the neck is a cord which I think is BSA but I am not sure. It looks a bit like the one seen in the calendar painting with the compass. I am not quite sure what it is but it looks BSAish.
Very sharp looking outfit, the hat is so cool
That's just like the one I wore. It's in incredible shape. Brings back memories, thanks a heap for sharing.
Thank you very much Newfld. Glad you like the hat.
Thank you very much Toyrebel. Very glad you like it.
He looks good Fort, what a great effort getting it all together.
He's also so very stylish, with the red converse balancing his neckerchief.
Thank you very much racer4four. Yes it did take some effort to get the uniform together. I got the idea for the shoes from an old boy scout uniform advertisement.
Thank you
