Picked up last week this complete & excellent quality 1870's strap and dowel Pure Zinc Monitor Trunk produced by D.D. Whitney & Co. Minneapolis Minnesota . This trunk measures 32" long by 20" tall x 18" deep. Tin stamped embossed sun/star burst? handle caps and bulb lid bumpers, which I really like as it creates a flared look. All 4 Patented 1869 castor wheels all in excellent working condition with no flat spots. Interior tray is still present ...not in the best shape... but having the original tray foundation layout is really what counts. The maker label is in excellent shape for being approximately 144 years old give or take. Also has a Brass Patented 1868 lock in excellent condition by Keystone Pat. Lock Works of Philadelphia. Just an interesting note on the bottom half metal top edge. In the one photo you will see there is no secondary metal band on the top of the lower section to finish off the cut zinc edge, nor was it wrapped over to the inside as are most, say , crystal tin trunks, but instead they wrapped the interior paper over from inside to the outside to conceal that raw edge and the nails. From the poor ad photos I could see what looked like paper on the outside face and it kind of puzzled me as to why would paper be on the outside face and now seeing it in person I get it, as to why and what I was seeing. Thought that was a little unusual and one for the books, but I'll take it anyway Thanks..lol

Great find and beautiful. A touch of green would just set it off. Just kidding! Very nice zinc trunk.
