1880's 34" French Canadian - George Barrington & Sons Montreal- Flat Top Trunk

This one caught my eye in an ad photo as shown the bottom trunk, because it had a circle from what I could tell on the latch area. On closer inspection it came to have a pile of interesting out of the norm hardware. To start it measures 34" L x 20"D x 24"H and is a French Canadian trunk made by George Barrington & Sons out of Montreal as indicated on the brass engraved name plate on the front. Obviously mimicking the French trunk style with cloth cover dust band or valance. It also has built in lid stays in the hinges and dowel in the unusual latches. All the metal trims and handle holders are in brass with copper rivets. The lock is brass with a copper back plate, the lock still had the top half arm hoop piece from being pried open still in the lock so I have that as well for repair. Duck canvas cover is very descent just a good cleaning to keep its original feel I believe is all that needed on this one. The brunt of time has focused on the bottom wheels as show, The wheels are stronger obviously. The interior is complete and if you notice the handles for both trays are in leather which is unusual. The buckles from the clothes straps in second tray are marked Paris. It also has nickel plated plates and hook catches for the tray lid. So it most certainly has all indication of being an 1880's high end trunk. The only reference I could find about this company was a snip-it regarding Montreal labor disputes as follows; " A few years later, in 1886 and 1887, two strikes broke out at the trunk and suitcase manufacturer George Barrington and Son" So overall a great piece of Canadiana from Montreal's History.
