Neat old watch could be a gift from president Lyndon B. Johnson? to Jack A. Burns Governor of Hawaii. It is marked Accutron Tiffany and Co. 14k and is dated 10-17-66 from LBJ to Jack A. Burns. I did type in the date and sure enough Lyndon Johnson did visit Hawaii on this date. Now im just wondering if there is a way prove my hunch of this being a real deal gift from the president I guess that is the Mystery that needs to be solved :)
Even if not the real deal, it would definitely be a keeper for me...
Kind of a neat follow up about the 14kt gold Tiffany & Co. Bulova Accutron watch that I picked up about a month ago that I believe was a gift from President Lyndon B. Johnson. I contacted the Lyndon Johnson museum and they could not quite confirm it because not everything was recorded in the daily log/journal but did say this is the exact watch he would have given out. So being the info hound that I am I looked around and most of his staff members have now passed away but I stumbled across someone who would probably know and who is still alive :) Lyndon Johnsons top Aide U.S. Chief Of Protocol with the rank of Ambassador Lloyd Hand. I sent him a few photos of the watch last night and he got back to me first thing this morning :o with the following message----Mr. Reed,
While , of course, I can’t guarantee it, I’m, 99% certain that LBJ gave that watch to Governor Burns--a dear and loyal friend of the President’s. He didn’t give out many of those watches--just a few to very special friend/staff.
Actually, I knew Governor Burns and my wife and children while on vacation in Hawaii had dinner at his Mansion
Hope this helps
Happy Holidays
Lloyd
This watch is now in my hands! I googled it and here it is!
