Picked this up at an estate sale in the tool shed out back. Have no idea what it is/was used for. It is really a cool item. Anyone know what its purpose is?

I just picke up a similar tool. As far as desighn they are the same. I've been curious to knopw the true function of mine also.
The one I have is much older, probably early 1800's or older. As a former black smith I recognize that it's hand forged. Both of opur were probably designed for the same purpose(s).
Also doing work,at one time for wineries I thought that maybe it was to taper out a bung hole in a wood keg. When I looked those up all those shown had a small feed screw on the end.
I still thinl it is to taper out a hole. You'd first pre-drill then ream to desired taper diminision? Just a gusess!

P.S.Would like to know from someone that actually does know.

Thanks, Dan. That is what I have found out also---that it is used to taper a hole. Would still like to know definitively though.

My grandson said it's for removing ear wax.

Please check out plumbing tools, reamer for lead pipe

That is a cooper's tool. You use it to ream or clean out a bung hole after you have made the hole. Lead pipe reamers were a solid cone usually with four teeth the length of it spaced evenly. Both tools are still made the same basic way today so the designs must have been good.
