Actually it is the D.III as in D3 as opposes to 111 but 111 is on the box. The Albatros started its career in 1916 and dominated for a bit aside from the wings coming off now and then. That happened to the Nieuport too and the Fokker Triplane. These were basically kites with an engine and machine guns so go figure. The era of the fighting planes in WWI lasted less than three years.

This model is 1:110 scale and is colorfully painted although not so much as last week's Fokker. I am wondering if anyone fell for the sky blue paint on the underside. Seems it would appear black as the underside would be in shadow. They did that until recently on war planes until they switched to the fuzzy gray color.

In other news I just won a Sopwith Camel on eBay which completes my WWI Mini-Plane collection. There are still others from WWII and other areas left to collect so do not panic.

The DIII had some clean lines for that era. The prop spinner and fuselage gave it a more modern look compared to the "boxy" look of most WW I planes. I'm glad you shared this series, I was unfamiliar with it and love these classic fighters from that time. Congrats on finishing the WW I group. I'm glad to hear that you'll have some more to post soon!
