Found this old mower with circular blades and a motor. It has a pull out choke and throttle. The serial numbers kind of confuse me when trying to date it. I think it was Mfg. around 1955...

Toro always made the best mowers, nice post
It looks like it might have been used on a Golf course on the putting greens. Sport Lawn maybe a clue.
Thanks Newfld, hey yougottahavestuff, great thought. Looking into the Sports Theme.
Looks just like the one I used in the 60's, nice old lady neighbor that paid me to mow her lawn, probably dates to the early 50's is my guess but Toro could probably tell you.
I was wrong! Looked online found Leisers Rental Barn in Pa. he collects old Toro Mowers, the Sportlawn was made for homeowers beginning in 1950. Check out his site
This is a reel mower as opposed to a rotary mower. They did a much better job but were a bitch to sharpen. Long ago I danced with many of these.
Your so right Fhrjr2 they cut grass better and healthier for the grass but they wouldn't cut those darn weed stems , I sharpened many of these over the years. They still use reel's on golf courses.
EJW-54 golf tee's is where I first encountered them back in the early 60's. They used six foot Locke reel mowers on the greens. The mower left a blanket worthy of taking a nap on. People go cheap today and just buy a rotary mower.
