    Good morning CW,
    The red velvet screams 1960-70’s
The center piece screws off and you can reposition the sword.
I first thought it to be part of a game? But truth is, I’m clueless.
And since I can’t sleep I’m sorting junk for gifting or donating.
But it’s hard to decide what kind of junk it is without knowing what it is.
But I bet I have a nephew who’d love it.
Any knowledge, good or bad guesses are welcome and appreciated.
    Thanks y’all

It looks rather military, perhaps a crest from a fraternal organization, must have been an impressive plaque gift

Thanks Newfld, sounds reasonable to me.
I have searched double headed eagles and can find no match.
My son thinks it is Masonic, I just don’t know.
      Appreciate your input and love

I doubt highly that it is Masonic. It has none of their symbols which are immediately recognizable. What size is it or the plaque ??
    4. PhilDMorris PhilDMorris, 6 years ago
Is it made of metal or composite plastic ??

Probably like a Heraldic Crest or Coat of Arms of Germany. The detail is superb.

I believe your wall decoration piece was most likely sold in the 60's and 70's as well.
As far as the meaning, and use of the 2 headed eagle shield, it seems it is not a question of what culture used is, as it is what culture did NOT use it. Read the links below.

This looks more like the Hapsburg eagle, which was also incorporated by Austria & Albania.

English coat of arms of House of Doria with double headed eagle

Oh wow! So many great comments.
      Thanks....
      Phil, it’s composite and it’s 10” x 11” approx.

Thanks Izenglish for the link, I’ll check it out now.

Thanks Blunderbuss, I can look into that.

Flashlarue, I hope you are right and the mystery is solved. Thank you.

      Appreciate all the love everyone!
