This is a Welz 'umbrella' type light shade with sixteen 'spokes' or protuberances around its circumference. The décor is Translucent Lines and Spots, though in this décor the so called spots are always jagged splodges! The shade came from France and the gallery is probably the most common model found there.
A while ago I drooled over examples of this type of Welz shade, shown in a post by Jericho, never even thinking I could own one.......but that's collecting.......you never know what you'll find next!

You're sounding very buoyant, Malkey, and now you mention it, it does look like tortoiseshell.....one that's been in the sun!
Welcome back on CW,Peggy:).
Thank you, Iwona, I've just been occupied by a house move, but I'm gradually getting straight :)
Lovely thing Peggy - wait 'til Jericho sees it!!
It's magical!
As you said, you never know with collecting - the pieces you've never dreamed of owning can sometimes come your way quite by chance...
My empathy to you for the move...still getting things sorted at my place too, it's off to a promising start, but I dare say I'll be faffing about with my collection for years...sure you know what I mean! :-)
Thanks Phil, the best of my old shades because it's identifiable. Also it's shape is different from the examples posted by Jericho.
Hi IronLace, for me it was a great find as I love household items in décors most usually found as as vases or bowls. I'm very familiar with that faffing you talk about. I shall be moving the items I have in the same décor as the shade into the same room......part of the fun :)
Thanks for the loves and comments everyone.
Yeah... but he'll still want it!
I was remarking on yet another shape because it seems so typical of Welz to produce so many variations in both shape and décor.
Photos by all means......
Fantastic! I love these... when I was in the Czech Republic a few years back you can still find these in pubs with old iron fixtures. Mine has a blue rim for some reason
I share your enthusiasm, Jericho and was gobsmacked (but delighted) to come across one for sale.
Many thanks to those who've chipped in with loves more recently!
