This is a family heirloom from the 1970s, the parentals downsized so here it is. In the long ago I think it was gold with black trim but as the finish gets worn the black has turned brown in spots. I like the way the wood slats look with that wear although I may use some Restor-A-Finish for some of the deeper scratches.
I was doing some research on trunks and found this website, Collections Weekday or something like that. Found out it is called a barrel top and that the railroad porters put them on their sides such that they could put other trunks on top of them.
The main appeal of this trunk is the gold finish on the metal. The hardware seems a bit plain. In the meantime it has a very nice interior which is coming up next.
Gorgeous trunk, lucky you !~
Thank you very much Phil.
