As I had a request to do some post on the Matchbox Superfast boxes here is one. Not quite in unchartered waters here but in waters not quite so well charted.
This my first Matchbox in the G Style box. I have a couple in the transitional Superfast F style boxes but this is my first true Superfast box.
This model was first released in 1966 and sold through 1972. It is in my 1972 catalog but according to Matchbox Cars Wiki it was not sold in 1972. Possibly it was discontinues in mid-1972. That happened now and then. Matchbox would do a second edition when they changed models mid year. I believe it was switched to the Superfast Wheels in 1970.
The nifty feature of this model is how the tipper action works. The rear section moves up and out of the way while the other section dumps its load.
Now on to the G Style box. My box info site does not have info on this box so I found another site which has info but not the information as to when each box style was released. This box has "Superfast" on every side and the end flaps. Despite the lack of info I have narrowed this down to 1971 or 1972. 1970models has a transitional F style box. The model was not sold after 1972 so that narrows it down to 1971-1972 and most likely 1971.
