Why the decoration is called red is only revealed on closer inspection. Ausführung 146 rot (red) is a special variant of Titania decors. It was introduced most probably in 1913 but applied here on a shape from 1910 (II-7436). To my opinion, the décor is highly sophisticated, made of several layers. The innermost layer consists of thin red glass. The Titania typical silver glass threads (“stahlgrau” - steel gray) are applied in between the red and a light-green layer. Therefore, they appear greenish all over the vessel. The threads are irregularly pulled and crackled as known from other Titania version (Ausführung 124, 134, and others). On top of these three decoration layers are leaf shaped elements made of thin red glass and pulled from the top. The “leaves” appear brownish due to the green layer below. All is cased in colorless glass as the fifth layer. Fire polished rim and polished pontil. The height is 17,5 cm (approx. 7 in).
