This is not my chest but something I saw in the Swedish army museum in Stockholm. Thought it might interest those who likes chests and trunks so I took some photos to share with you. It is a "rote chest" from the reign of Charles XI (Karl XI in swedish). He reigned 1660–1697. Hope you find it interesting.

Wow really beautiful! I’ve seen some variations of these over the years... good to have some background information. Thanks for the post!

You are most welcome! Glad it was somewhat interesting. I think it's is nice that they put some extra effort on details. This could easily just have been plain. But someone has put some extra time on the metall details. That amazes me when you think about the hard times they lived under. Makes one feel humble.

I’m always amazed at pre-industrial craftsmanship... these are true artists/artisans at work..

Yes I agree, like that beautiful "art noveau" like metall detail on your trunk.

Beautiful chest and workmanship. Thanks for posting it and thank you so much for identifying that bowlYou correctly identified it as looking like a iittala marimekko glass bowl.I would have never figured this out and that explains the other pieces I’ll be posting soon that are all a unique. They were all in a old plastic carton that only had Ratia written on it.I couldn’t find anything made of glass with this name.I’m fairly sure the other pieces that were with this are most likely from Finland or Scandinavia.I just got back from a specialty art glass shop not far from me that’s been in the same location over 30 years who had sold piece iittaca glass in the Merimekko pattern before and they said there’s no doubt it custom made for someone.Tou were right on both things. Thanks again for helping me with this and have a great new year.
