I've been meaning to post this for a while. It's a signed publicity photo from the great Dick Dale, the King of the Surf Guitar. In 2001, when I was working for a different publication, I assigned a writer to interview Dick Dale. The writer went out to his place in the high desert of Southern California and asked Dale to sign this for me, which he did. The full PR photo includes Dale's phone number and address at the bottom, but I cropped it to protect his privacy. I guess I've been thinking about Dale because I'm working on an article about Stratocasters and other solid-body electric guitars. The article should be on CW later this week....
Sorry to hear about Dick Dale's passing today.
Hi folks:
Yes, something is messed up when you try to click to a Show & Tell item when you are in "All Activity." It works fine when you are in "Latest Posts" or anything else. We are working on it!
Best, Ben
Sad indeed. I lived in Orange County in the 50s and 60s and Armon Frank, the saxophonist who played in the DelTones was a good friend of my older brother and would come to our house. They played the surfer dances at the Harmony Ballroom, in Anaheim. There were also great times doing the stomp athe Rendevous in Newport Beach and the big dances at Retail Clerk's Union hall in Buena Park. Some of those groups got really famous; Righteous Brothers, Joe and Eddy etc. Dick Dale's passing truly marks the end of a long gone, but not forgotten, era.....
Dick Dale died Sunday.
