A promotional toy from Texaco. Texaco made a few toys such as the Fire Chief Helmet and Buddy L Fire Truck. Not sure if they gave them away or sold them. I think you got stamps or some such to redeem for them but I could be mistaken.

As to this fine ship it is about 27" long so it is not at all small. It is almost complete missing the smokestack and a few other small pieces. It is battery operated and rolls about on the floor on little wheels on the bottom of the ship. There is a battery compartment on the bottom. I do not think it is made to float.

The battery hatch also has the statistics of the actual ship. S.S. Texaco North Dakota.
Weight 19,203 tons, Capacity 153,419 Barrels
Length 565 feet, Beam 75 feet.
Built By Newport News 1953 (looks like something from a WWII submarine movie)
Model by Wen-mac Corp a subsidiary of American Forge &Foundry Co.

A very fine tanker, great design - and the wheels gave it a longer life than flotation

I vaguely remember a Texaco tanker promo, I don't know if they only made this one. The Texaco toys were tres cool, I remember the displays around Christmas. I'm pretty sure you could buy/order their promo items without stamps etc. They promoted them a lot in commercials around Christmas. Seems like I've seen a Wen Mac large fire truck at a toy gig. Don't remember any Texaco markings, but they could have been missing. Buddy L made a GREAT tanker Texaco truck also. It's the one I always remember. I don't mind pumping my own gas, but I wish they still had the old gas stations, especially Sinclair and Texaco. How can you go wrong with dinosaurs and trucks?

Thank you very much Newfld. I should check if it does float.

Thank you very much Toyrebel. I have a Texaco BuddyL firetruck that I will post eventually. Going to a toy show tomorrow. Some Sinclair dinos would be great.

I seen a add for these they said you had to buy $8.50 in gas and they had you fill out a slip for Texaco to send it to you ,it took 4 weeks or so but all the ones I found are 27 inches long how did you end up with a runt ...smiling..later .. nice toy

Thank you very much Roycroftbooksetc. Great commercial and it answers the question of floating and the propeller is powered. I will go to my Texaco dealer now and buy one for $4.50.
Mine is 274" not sure why I put 12, I fixed it thanks again.
