Nice an unusual subject for a Civil War image.
This is a ninth plate tintype, housed in a thermoplastic case and depicts a woman (wife?) showing her allegiance with a large US Flag as a backdrop.
Maybe it was sent to a husband who was serving in the War? Unfortunately, the subject and circumstances of the photograph have been lost to time.
