Bought this at the last Lang Beach Antique Flea Market. It has a few unusual features. Actually two but who is counting? The first is that it is not a shoulder mount so it sticks straight out from the wall.
The more important difference is that points all come from a common branch. Usually they branch off in groups of two or more. This one has a main branch with single points coming from the main branch. An expert there (not the dealer) said it was an east coast deer. Not the usual Mule Deer or White Tail.
This deer was taken long ago. Hard to say how long but looks to be 1960s or earlier. Just a guess.

Face looks more like a doe. But, what do I know ?

Thank you very much bb2. Does look like a doe aside from the pointy things.

I was noticing the points too and thought they were a bit different than I've seen. Has it got 9? They seem to be quite large for such a small deer. It about looks like a youngster...Bambi even ;)

Probably the taxidermist who gave it that Bambi look.

Thank you very much shareurpassion. I think the deer would have been 8-9 which is middle aged for a deer.

Thank you very much keramikos. I think this taxidermist was less skilled thus the head is a bit deformed. Maybe it was meant to look that way.

Thank you very much bb2. You may be correct.

Back to shareurpassion the antlers definitely different from the ones you usually see around here.

Back east, this would be considered a 10 pointer, but we count them differently there than in the west. All eastern deer are white-tail.

Thank you very much ho2cutcha and keramikos. Not sure why they score them the way they do in the west it doesn't seem like much fun. I go with the eBay system where anything that can be counted as a point is counted. Please note the eBay system is not official. I call it that because that is how the sellers do it.
