Brown Bess been converted. Seen better days!! Stock was broken and repaired by a tinsmith many years ago!!! Wood appears to be burnt along barrel many break's in it. Got it from a friend now deceased. WWII Vet. "Blunderbuss" Gil would have liked you. He made that bucket!! and the ramrod!!! He was a real curmudgeon in a good way!!! Like you!!
    A. Bean is engraved on the brass on top of the butt. Wish I knew the history of this weapon. What a story I believe it would tell. Any info on it would be great!!

OK, I've waited long enough to throw in my thoughts. It is Sunday and I'm just finishing my envied "Brownie Tour". LOL ! Now, what were we talking about ? Oh yeah ! This is a vintage composite. Brit military marked lock With "GR" & crown, sans "TOWER" marking, that was originally flint. Vintage stock wrist repair. My opinion is (where were we?) that it was probably originally a "Brown Bess" & some parts were used to make a game gun. The trigger guard has been replaced, maybe for gloves & apparently soldered to the orig. bottom strap. In those days, parts were reused. The lock might be used on several home-made guns over the years & other parts replaced. The Brown Bess was .75 cal. (3/4 inch) & made an acceptable conversion to shotguns. Usually the barrel was shortened for that or maybe left long, as here, for other hunting. I'm sure this has a very interesting history. May have even been used by Confederates until the Yanks supplied them with more modern guns. LOL !

Thank you Blunderbuss for your expertise!! I now have an interesting story to go along with Gil's gift. The kids like looking at it on display. Not PC nowadays. But if you don't know your history you're bound to repeat it.

      Thanks Brunswick hunterglee EJW-54 LOL
