I found this Pottery Vase a few weeks ago, and thought that was interesting looking, kind of like a large White Fig Vase, but it's hard for me to figure out the Mark on the bottom and number 66, or 99, and that really doesn't matter anyway! I like it! :^D ho2cultcha(Pete) posted a small Pottery Vase earlier, that's similar in looks, and I wanted him to see this one!
Thank you for looking, and all comments are welcome! :^)
Thank you for the love, yougottahavestuff, Roycroftbooksfromme1, and Kevin, it's always nice to get! :^)
Here's a link to ho2cultcha(Pete)'s Weedpot:

Thanks Pete! :^D
Thank you both for the love, Pete, and Brian! :^)
hunterqlee, always nice with a love, thanks much! :^)
Charming vase, and I'll be a third to say I think it looks like a fig, too! And it looks like a kissing cousin of ho2cultcha(Pete)'s Weedpot, all right.
To me the mark on yours looks like the initials CD, or just possibly SD. Or is that D actually a B... it looks like there's the trace of a mark across the middle of it! Urgh! Really difficult to say.
It's hard to know whether the number (the year made?) is a 66 or 99. I lean towards 66 because the stem part of the number looks like it was incised first, with the round swoops done afterwards (they appear to be on top of the stem, if you know what I mean), and it would be weird to write a 99 from the bottom up. But that's just my 2 cents, and please salt those 2 pennies liberally because I may be flat-out wrong!
Wouldn't it be lovely if someday there was an online directory of potters' marks, in the way that you can now look up silver hallmarks? Well, one can wish :)
