Your's has the chrysanthemum crest. Many were ground off before release to the public for reasons I don't know. Your model should have a chrome bore, which was the only military rifles to have that during the War, to my knowledge. Nice prize !

If this was a bring back, I think that the stock would probably have been cut and reassembled. Returning soldiers had to fit rifles in their duffle bags to hand carry one back. It is called "duffel cutting". Here is a link that explains this process.

kwqd not everything that came back was in a duffel bag. When my father in law left Luzon at the end of the war his unit brought heavy equipment along on the boats when they boarded for home. There was a good deal of added weight secreted away with the equipment. Typical of a GI if there is a will they will find a way.

fhrjr2 is right! Where there's a will there's a way. One of our guys over in Nam got a captured Thompson Sub-machine gun!! He took the guts out of reel to reel tape player and took it apart and attached it inside!! Got it home. I still wonder what ever happened after that???

Whoops ! Bad timing. Friend in demolition grabbed loads of stuff from Nazi warehouses. He packed a lot of footlockers with booty, painted them purple with pink stripes. He left them on the dock in NY until the people checking baggage left and then brought trucks to pick them up with no checks. In '68, it took 3 ATF people 2 full days to register all his Class 3 weapons. LOL !
