Welcome to CW yorobby! Nice vase I hope you can get some help! :^D
I think it is like a sewer pipe earthenware, the mark looks like a J inside an H, with a slip glaze. Has it been scraped, or sanded on the top? It looks so pink! Good luck, and thanks for showing! :^)
Pink....:) billretirecoll Thanks, similar to pipe making ...../earthenware....
Mix of orange and red clays.....Pink is the result...the mark was part of the mold or construction before firing......my guess is 18 century American pottery.....
Lots of age.... the glaze became loose over years due to the soft clays and method curing without a kiln.... just my opinion! But would enjoy to find out the maker of this vase.
keramikos‘’That mark on the base is interesting in that it isn't incised, but rather embossed. There are some faint marks adjacent to the makers mark that might indicate it was created using some kind of tool after the vase itself was formed.’’
Thanks for your reply...../actually the mark was part of the mold or was incised before the vase was fired...
