What a beautiful record of your family’s history! To be able to know what your ancestors looked like, where and how they earned a living, what kind of house they lived in, and even how they decorated the store for Christmas must give you a solid sense of being anchored and secure.

Thanks so much Watchsearcher, I like the Pillsbury Flour sign in the back, there was a lot of baking happening around Christmas! The only reason that our Family has these Early Family photos, is because of our online Family Site, that I've been able to keep, and support, for over 15yrs now, and was able to meet so many Relatives, from all over the World, that I wouldn't have without it! :^D

It's a pen and ink drawing keramikos, and yes my Mother's Uncle, who Married one of Her Mother's Sisters did it. When we would go to Minnesota to visit, we would always see our Great Aunt and Uncle, they were Married for over 75yrs, lived into their 90's. Our Great Uncle was a very good Artist, but was an Architect, by Trade! :^D

Awesome post! I look at the first pic and just can't imagine having had to live in that day and time. The second drawing is beautiful! You just don't see things like this anymore! Everything is computer generated it seems. and the other two pics are great as well!
What a DELIGHTFUL post Bill -- thanks SO MUCH for sharing such fascinating bits from your own history with the rest of us all. :-) :-) :-) For the record I think the 'store' pic is my favorite too -- SO MANY interesting things in the background to look at and enjoy. Also for the record (as shareurpassion suggests) I also can't quite imagine what it really must have been like to live one's life back then...OH how the world has changed since then, not to mention how much more rapidly it continues to change to this day. All the folks in that pic would no doubt be amazed by (if not dreadfully afraid of?) all the stuff we now consider commonplace -- electric everything, indoor plumbing, vehicles/transportation, kitchen appliances, airconditioners/furnaces, telephones and TV sets (esp the most current so-called 'smart' versions of such) and SO many other things...
And then there's those of us now that enjoy hunting/collecting all that crap seen in the pic which was commonplace then, and the likely great amusement those folks might find by discovering that we now proudly buy/sell/trade/display such stuff from 'their time' prominently in our own modern homes -- many things of which would never then have been considered anything more than utilitarian items and/or trash. TIME MARCHES ON, I guess...?? ;-)

Thank you shareurpassion, I found/saw that Store photograph, not that long ago, well Family speaking anyway, maybe 8yrs. I knew my Grandfather had owned a store, but that was many years before I knew him, he died in 1963. After he died our Mother talked more about growing up in Minnesota, and little things, like what might have happened to the shoebox full of Indian Head Pennies, that he had shown her as a young girl in the 1930s, that he got from the cash register, whenever they showed-up. I would always wonder(maybe they're still somewhere in the Family Home, waiting to be found!) :^D My Aunt sold their Home, after her Father died, and moved out to California, for a couple of years, because it was too sad for her, without her Father, who she cared for! :^( It was nice to have her living near us though, sometimes I'd ride my bike to her Apartment, and have a cup of coffee, and some cookies, with her, and hear another side of the Minnesota Family, secrete info, for me a 9yr old, from my old Aunt in her forties! :^D I did miss her when she moved back to Minnesota though, yah sure you bet-cha!
I know that have at least one small Painting that my Great Uncle painted, of a Lady standing in the middle of a stone bridge, with a distant Castle behind her, but boxed with Family things! :^)
Yeah Bobby I don't even see an ATM in there! :^D
Thank you Tim(AO), posting this brought/brings so many memories, back to me, and in My Family, I'm in the oldest living Generation, and that's why I've tried to keep some of these old Family stories alive, blood is one thing, but stories keep the memories of the People alive! My Great Uncle was born in 1885, and lived until 1984, he was 98, and knew horse and buggy, to mouse and keyboard, that must have been a fantastic life! :^D

So many cool things to see in the store pictures. Thanks for sharing (from another (2nd gen immigrant). Mom’s side also came to Minnesota - they were strong and tough individuals.

That's ok my #1 Mary, I have trouble getting back to my posts, let alone seeing/stopping by all the posts that I'd like to see! :^D Yeah when it's -40 out it's easy to sit around a heater and drink Coffee. . . lots of Coffee! My Mother would drink Coffee all day, I do too, but in California, when my Mother would make a fresh pot, she'd pour a cup and pop-it in the Microwave for a minute to make sure it was hot enough to drink! I guess you get that from living in Minnesota, and trying to drink a cup outside when it's 40below, Coffee Sickles don't go down to easy! :^D Thanks so much for your comment, and the love you gave! xoxo :^)
