Yes I know Bison is the official term but Buffalo is the more popular and better name, it just is. Oh that is not a buffalo it is a bison, oh whatever.
Now as for who I got it from it was the Rock Shop in Crestline up here in the mountains and they got it from Elmer of Elmer's Bottle Tree Ranch in Oro Grande. Elmer has a place in Crestline along with the Bottle Tree Ranch which is out in the desert where 110 is not uncommon. Crestline gets cold in the winter plus snow so having two homes could come in handy. I could get into that but I work up here. Having a spare house would give me more room to put stuff. Will I ever get to discuss the item I posted? Just a minute.
OK the jaw bow is 15" straight across from one end to the other. In photo #3 I am comparing the teeth with those from a bull skull. As can be seen the buffalo has an inch or two more worth of teeth as it is a bigger animal. Chances are this is from a bull buffalo which is a very large and impressive animal.
Free bonus tip. Those bull skulls with rope around the base of the horns where it attaches to the skull are actually cow skulls with horns do not actually belong there.
Impressive buffalo jaw fort, it's massive
That is cool and good story also I have always wanted to go to the bottle ranch to late now with Elmer`s passing I have the lower fossilized jaw bone of something always figured it was a buffalo aka bison lol but it was found in the black rock
Good looking and nice it has all the teeth. I have one posted on my page that I have no idea who the original owner was. It washed up out of the Atlantic after a storm.
Thank you very much Newfld.
Thank you very much OLECODY. Don't know if they reopened the ranch yet. It was supposed to be open late summer.
Thank you very much fhrjr2. One wonders how it got out in the ocean.

Very cool! I bet you probably know that man that was up there, he probably lives there too, but a few years back when that beetle destroyed many trees up there and he was carving totem polls out of the stumps with a chainsaw! A chainsaw of all things. His artwork was and still is simply amazing!!! What a great thing to do!
thank you very much shareurpassion. chainsaw art is popular. still plenty of trees left.
Very Nice!
