ok, thank you. i have people contact me over the years telling me otherwise so... it's so confusing to me. People tell me to have it appraised, take to a museum, etc. I dont know who or what to believe because the info given me is so diverse. Thank you.
Lack of quality in the blade and the star stamps are indicators.

Can you show me an example of what a "real" one looks like?
I cant for the life of me find another knife that looks exactly like this one. Especially the Horn handle. I can easily find Horn handle knives but none with this exact shape and size. How old is this knife?
Are there other knives with star stamped blades? And if it was old and used wouldn't that compromise the aesthetics of the markings and the blade itself?
Certainly looks like its been used and it looks like dried blood on the blade in some spots. Can you show me another knife just like this? A real one.

Cool. Thank you. Know what? To my ignorant brain, mine looks like an authentic tribal personal knife and the one in your photos looks mass produced. But that's only because I am ignorant. Thanks so much. The one you found is the only one I have ever seen that bears a resemblance. Is there a sheath?
It says yours is probably a letter opener. Mine certainly is not and the seems weird on yours... like it's not real horn. My horn is real. I cant make out the body sheath on yours and your sheath is obviously nothing at all like my leather, reptile skin sheath so... huge differences. Not same knife at all but alot of fun to see the one you found. Thank you.

Even though mine is a fake, I like the aesthetics. I don't mind owning it. It feels good in hand. Someone else must have liked it because it's been used. I guess they know how to make fakes look real by creating marks and patina and whatnot. It has potential as a conversation piece, I just wish I knew more about it like how old or new it is... what animal the Horn came from, the materials used on the knife and sheath, country of origin, type of steel. Etc. I still don't have any of that information. But now I know it's just a cheap reproduction made for tourists or something. And I guess that was the biggest question i had. If you look at the comments some folks posted on the video, you will see some folks were quite sure it was a real antique authentic knife. I said ARE YOU SURE? They said. YES. Even though they were wrong, to me it's fun to have and hold. Thanks for your assistance. Much appreciated.

$10 (US) is probably alot of money to the mass-maker
in the 3rd world country.

Earlkay, you have a healthy attitude and would probably venture well in the collecting field. "People believe what they want to believe", and that also applies to their lives. It's a bloody souvenir. People like to buy the story that goes with the sales pitch. It's part of sales ! "Alcohol ! What good story ever started with a salad?". I live in St. Maarten and almost all tourist items with our Island's name on it, are made in Bali, etc.. When they look at the souvenir on their shelf that reads St. Maarten on top, they aren't remembering Bali on the bottom. My hand made silver belt buckle from my time living in Guatemala was found to read "Made in Mexico" after I moved away. LOL . A bientot.
i used to collect so many things. I have alot of knives. I was into real abalone and real pearl handled knives for a while. Still have some. I had 47 guitars at one point... i could go on... but it's too much to mention. part of the fun is finding out about stuff. Whatever I learn is good, that's what I figure. Knowledge is good. This is probably african, libya, sudan... leather work characteristic and goats important in tribal economy... something western n US collectors dont understand... in some cultures, one guy makes blade blanks, another attaches handle, another makes sheath. Many of these so called tourist knives are real thing... but while exterior n sheath look good, blades are unfinished... thats because end user has them ground to his desires... and the tourists who buy them leave them as found. This is especially true of mid eastern knives... esp jambiyas from yemen. Hope that helps...
I appreciate everyone's advice here. In the end, I am confused because the responses differ so greatly. It leaves me not knowing what to think. The knife seems old to me. How old? I don't know but... old. It also appears to have been used often. While there is some agreement in the responses, there is some conflicting information as well. I was trying to find origin and apprx. value. I still haven't seen any photos that are exactly like my knife and sheath. If it were a tourist knife, shouldn't there be a whole bunch exactly like mine, easy to find many photos, etc.? I still have not seen one exactly like mine. The sheath is intricate in ways. The horn handle is real horn.
