Here Gnat, I found this Nova Numismatics link:

      http://www.novanumismatics.com/the-genesis-of-the-united-states-3-cent-piece/

If you scroll down the page until you see your Note Stamp, above it, is the information! Apparently it was made to be used instead of the Silver 3 Cent Piece,
that people were Hoarding during the Civil War, but it didn't work, too small and got tattered too quickly! Hoard Silver Cent Piece! ! ! :^D
Welcome to CW Gnat, I hope this helps! :^)

Thank you for the information Bill. I will check it out. I hope it has more value than 3 pennies stuck together!

Wow great article. I will research some more.it seemed a smart way to avoid getting two worthless pennies. I bet a ton of smart people made a ton hoarding those silver coins!

That was a very interesting article. I need to read more about the merchants having their own coins made; I have a “trade token” that was good for 5 cents at the Morton Bend Store (no town listed).
I think I will post it here since I was unsuccessful in my own search for info on it.

I love all this education about old money and the facts behind it!

You're very welcome Gnat, I was surprised to find out that it was Currency and not a Stamp, although it did look large for a 3 cent Stamp, there are some of those that look similar, but are smaller, and that's where my confusion came from! :^D
Yeah Watchsearcher CW comes through again, helping us all learn about what we collect! I'll be looking for your "Wooden Nickle"! :^)

Here's a little more information on it:

Well maybe a lot of Information! :^)

Thank you again Bill. Mine is I. Great shape bit apparently a common piece. I still consider it a lucky find.
