I just received this in mail today and must share my utter pain with you. This is a gorgeous and rare piece and it arrived broken with a 2"x3" sliced piece off foot as shown in photo. and a smaller break to 3 teeth on base also. But all in all I feel lucky the damage was limited and hopefully can be repaired. I know nothing of glass repair and would appreciate recommendations for proper repair please. I also would love comments and help on this piece. The only mark I can find so far is a very small 8 etched on stopper. I am a newbie to American Brilliant so help is greatly appreciated. Where are pieces usually signed on a piece or is there one? Does this damage destroy my coffeepot's value? I would like to know this pattern name please.

That's so sad. I believe many of us have experienced that horrible sinking feeling, when the box is opened. I know I have. I must disagree about this being a coffee pot though. Hot beverages do not belong in glass at all. I hope you can get your money back, most sellers will do that if you send photos of the item and of the packing.

As it was the bottom of the piece, and the thing it stands on, I don't think you can repair it. In fact I don't believe it's possible to even repair glass!

I call it a coffee pot because I see similar pieces auctioned off online and that is what they call them. What would you call it? I have had my heart broken too many times receiving gorgeous glass and pottery in shards. Three times this week alone!! This, a rare Bill Campbell pot and a $250 gorgeous new Barbara Garneir casserole with the lid shattered. I beg sellers to wrap well but it doesn't help much. Very, very painful. Anyway, plz let me know the proper term for this and thanks for help.

numbers on stoppers are typically to match to the decanter and there would be a matching number somewhere on the decanter. The ACGA site has this similar shape noted as a pedestal coffee pot in their examples:

I needed to come back here to talk about a hot drink in a glass container. Of course coffee is put into all kinds of glass pots. A lot of kettles are glass. But never in a crystal glass, or cut glass etc. Your piece is 99% decanter and 1% gooseneck kettle spout. I need rescuing here, is there such a thing?

Good grief - I am the silly goose here. I knew, deep down, I should have waited for TallCakes!

Thank you for help and thoughts. I am now going to get my readers and magnifying glass and inspect it again. Where are such things usually signed. The bottom? The rim? Anyplace in particular?

This is what it says on the link that TallCakes posted:

Pedestal Coffee Pot: 15in. tall x 6in. diameter x 5in. base. Weight: 7 pounds. Propellor pattern. A 24 point hobstar is cut on the base. The matching stopper features a large tear-drop. Split vesicas of cross hatching separated by hobstars and cane form the pattern around the bottom with Harvard cutting on the neck.

I'm very sorry that this happened to your beautiful pot Blondie!
Your piece is complete Pot and Stopper Match, but the breakage is very bad, and effects the value much, you could have it repaired, but that would cost, and couldn't be recovered. If you can, you should try to get your purchase price back.

I think this link should bring you to the Pedestal Pot, that looks like yours:

I hope this makes it easier! :^)

I have THE WORST luck in receiving destroyed beautiful pottery and glass in mail, whether it be USPS, Fedex etc. It is utterly devastating. I am going to keep this as it was not alot of money. I wish it made things easier Bill but it doesn't at all. One of the most devastating items destroyed in mail was my Larry Waatson whimsical perfect green pitcher and 2 matching mugs and I can't even find them although I was in touch with him. To replace them is more than $350 easily and that same terrible day I was anxiously waiting for a gorgeous Bill Campbell large bowl I had my eye on for weeks. They both arrived in pieces!! What a terrible day and it is still painful. Anyone else have such tragedieis???

BTW Bill - thank you very much for taking the time and finding and sending me the link. Very nice of you and thoughtful.

Yes Blondie, it's terrible when win a bid and you're so excited when the package arrives, and then find that it's been broken! :^( My wife buys a lot on line, jewelry mainly so not much worry on it being broken, but years ago she won a bid for a set of Dinner Ware for 12, and the plates were stacked with only a piece of newspaper, between each, only 2 survived, she was so upset, it was a great buy, and was what she had looked for a long time, for a Holiday meal, then gone! I think that's when she started mainly buying Jewelry, not much worry! :^)

I think I am doing the same. I am buying beaded and sequin gowns. The gaudier the better!! LOL!!
