This is my 1921 VV-90. The finish is golden oak. It is powered by a 2 spring wind up motor. These are referred to as internal horn machines. Behind the two top doors you can see a wooden grille, The grille is attached to a heavy iron horn that is suspended from the rear of the top, just under the tone arm. To the tone arm is attached a soundbox. The soundbox is fitted with a mica diaphragm, and attached to that is the needle bar. The neede is held in the bar by a thumb screw. Vibrations lead to sound waves, sound waves are picked up by our ears, and voila music! Needles need to be replaced after ever use to avoid excessive record wear. I can't think of anything else to say. Questions? Suggestions?

A BEAUTIFUL machine, as well as a wonderfully concise explanation of how it works!! <applause> The only thing I might add is that its doors served as what we'd now call its "volume control", the opening or closing of which made the instrument practically play 'louder' or 'softer'. :-) :-) :-)
