I don't know very much about this one. It is a sign for the East German police force, the Volkspolizei. Not even sure what it is made of. looks like bronze but I think it might be copper. It has a sort of protective plastic film on the front so I think it was meant to go outside. Maybe on the front of a police station.
The second picture, just for fun, is a Trabant Volkspolizei car. I had the chance to buy one once but turned it down because it seemed to be taking things a bit too far and I had nowhere to keep it at the time.
I am thinking that Trabant Volkspolizei car would not be involved in a high speed pursuit.
Great sign and really awesome looking Trabant Volkspolize!!!
Collecting things dealing with the soviet era is a good niche. Values are going up much faster that the value of the $ is going down. Are there a lot of fakes being produced yet ?
Hi Blunderbuss, Not many fakes yet, apart from the more high end medals and officer's daggers. Something particular to the late communist era are the huge remaining stockpiles of unissued uniforms and equipment from 1989 to 91 which were bought up by army surplus dealers, nearly all in small sizes that no one wants. These flood the market and seem to suppress the prices of the later stuff because its still easy to get cheaply. It is the older 1960s - 70s items that are more sought after and are going up in value. Not sure the late 80s stuff will move up in price at all.
