    Hi

Not the normal thing I would pick up - but this caught my eye because it has an original painted signature...

I knew the designer, Sister Maria Innosencia Hummel, died in 1946....this is the only one I can find on the web with a painted signature.

Two things that are strange (at least, to me!) are that:

There appears to be a symbol (or intials ?) under her name - no idea what this is
There is no "Franz Goebel" factory mark anywhere

If there are any Hummel collectors out there that can advise, I would be grateful!

    thanks

    Paul

Maria Innosencia would be marked MI Hummel this appears to be one made in the far east which do not bear the Goegel trademark but are created to the same quality standard but at a much reduced price because they are made of bisque porcelain.

paulnot - always look for both marks when assessing a Hummel. That will be your guide to tell the difference as to where they are made and of what material. The signature alone simply indicates it was made to a certain quality standard but not by Goebel. They were licensed to make them but not to use the Goebel mark.
