I google the "It's a Castoy" and was surpised to find no results. Has anyone ever heard of this? I'm trying to learn more about my mum's iron. In fact, I'm wondering if it might even have been my grandma's.

I'm especially curious to learn it's likely age and what that handle is made of
Thanks keramikos,
It's 3.75 inches. Interesting references. I was aeare of the auto toys, but not the other company.
Cheers
Jake
Ha! I think you're right about it being a toy though. Mine is a lot lighter than that and then there's "Castoy", which I assume is the brand name, albeit probably a different company to the auto toys. Thanks again
I think you will "Iron Out" what it is one of these days???
Pardon the Pun!! But I'm pressed for time!!!
I can't help myself!! I'll fold now!!!

Hi keramikos - That catalogue is fascinating. It's also an great angle for researching that I hadn't thought of before. Your theory is definitely the most plausible so far. Thanks for your time :)
yougottahavestuff - I'll be sad if I don't ;)
Hello -
Here's one that was a Salesman Sample which might match the size a bit closer:

Nice finds Gillian & keramikis. I appreciate the patent database suggestion too. Had some fun with that already, though no match yet
Curious. Yes, it might be. After tapping it, biting it, weighing it, I'm simply not sure. It's definitely a lighter material than the metal it's attached to.
Could the handle be Bake O Lite?? as most handles were wood so they wouldn't conduct heat from hot iron??

That's what I was wondering
Cool. Thanks yougottahavestuff. It definitely looks more like a plastic than wood or enamelled metal. I tried the hot water & small tests for Bakelite and couldn't detect any formaldehyde smell myself. I'll keep trying with the other methods
I knew with the help of all the great CW Folks out there, you would get a HANDLE on it!!
