Picked up this 1880's quality Steel Bound Roll top Trunk last week. Made by J.C. Gillmore of New York it measures in at 30L x 18D x 19T . It doesn't have all the typical bells and whistle hardware I like, but it is a very well made early trunk example, with maker providence. Has a little different nail work on the metal banding which I think contributes to a more of a strong box look, also large #4 latches, remnants of the leather handle holders which you don't see very often and a descent lock which has the eagle and wreath logo, which you can't see but its there. With the pickings slim for the more elaborate ones, this trunk was 25 bucks & 20 minutes from home so who could say no to that, especially the easy on the pocket book part..lol
