I was lucky enough to acquire this beautiful example of Loetz’s Ausführung 237 recently. I picked it up in person only about ten minutes from my home, and had a nice chat with the man selling it for a friend. (Apparently his friend had inherited a really nice glass collection, but didn’t care for the glass, so he was helping her to sell it.) I have to say that I think my vase is a beauty, and I am lucky she didn’t like it! I was immediately struck by the beautiful golden iridescence over the swirling colors; I didn’t really see that in the photos, and it was wonderful to experience in hand. You can see this best in the last image.
This is a large piece, standing 10-1/2” (26.7 cm) tall. Ausf. 237 dates to 1925; the finely ground pontil is marked with the Loetz oval. I am not sure of the PN for this piece.
Beautiful piece. Congratulations.
Hi Ales, thank you - I appreciate it!
Hi
Michelle
I do found one too in Ausführung 237, you maybe see it on FB, o didn’t post here yet, you’re as a majestic size, nice example.
Alan
Hi Alan, yes, I have seen yours, too. :) Thank you!
Great catch!
Yes, yes, yes........Oh Michelle! Special and a great size!
Thank you, Sammyz! :)
Thanks so much Phil! It is a biggie!
Similar to III-1849, which is a two-handled PN. The shape and size of the vase body are the same, though.
Thank you, Warren! That’s great to know. I had been looking through what I have on PN III’s, which isn’t much, and didn’t see a good match. I have the pattern book for PNII’s, the CD from Ricke, and some other sources I have collected, but do you know of a good reference for PN III’s?
Michelle, as far as I know, Ricke is the ONLY source for Series III patterns.
Okay, thanks Warren! :)
I've always had a soft spot for this décor, Michelle. So I'm pleased to see a large one, and even more pleased to see that you are its owner. Congratulations! I think it's going make itself felt...
Thank you so much, Peggy! I am trying to find the perfect spot for it. It dwarfs a lot of my other Loetz! :)
Yes, the cuckoo in the nest, as it were, is always a problem. It's usually solved by a flash of inspiration......
Thanks Peggy! I’ll be looking for that flash! :)
Fabulous size!!.
Thank you Penny! :)
