A bit of a tale to tell here. Two weeks ago I came across this figurine in an op shop here in Sydney and was struck by the quality of the hot worked glass. I put it up on one of the Facebook Murano sites with this description :

Would like some help with the signature that I believe might well be Archimede’s.
This looks to be a seated male figure of a hunchback … un gobbo. Neodymium. Scultura a Massello.
Can anyone fill me in ???
    Signed : Seguso.
    H : 15.5 cm.
    W : 11 cm.

One of the FB Murano Glass members came up with a Worthpoint figure that had a similar form but it was signed Signoretto.

Yet another member suggested that the signature on my piece was not that of Archimede Seguso but rather was that of Livio Seguso.

I then went on holiday for a week in New Zealand and got back on the case this morning and found that the Signoretto piece from Worthpoint was similar to one posted six years ago on CW by RICK55.

PINO SIGNORETTO MURANO HOT SCULPTED GLASS SCULPTURE.
    https://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/202193-pino-signoretto-murano-hot-sculpted-glas

It had prompted some discussion here on CW and had provoked another post a year later by JENSILVERMATH.
S/He had found two figurines similar to mine ….. which were unsigned but in Alexandrite.

JENSILVERMATHKs suggestion was that they were ‘Campesinos’ and thought they might too be by Signoretto.

Or are they the work of Seguso ?.?
    https://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/242218-pair-of-alexandrite-campesinos

I am hoping the someone may be able to look at the signature on my piece and comment about whether it is that of Livio Seguso or that of Archimede Seguso. Perhaps APOSTATA might be able to give his opinion ???

Looks like it says "Seguso" to me. Was looking closely at S, E & O comparing to these signatures..what appears to be labeled, signed pieces..I don't know...Waki has some special software, maybe he can shed some light?

Hi, DAV2NO1. It does read Seguso. But the question is whether it is the signature of Livio or Archimede. I’m not really looking at the capital S but at the letters that follow. Mind you either way it’s OK by me ….

Oh OK, I understand now. It was late at night..Great piece either way. When I first saw the thumbnail, I thought it was the Spy vs Spy character..lol

this ought to be a no brainer, but actually it gave me a late of trouble due to mine chaotic mind

well we are committed, to Seguso , and we are committed to neodymum, and the pointed there is an value difference attributed and established

the old pieces must be having the A ( from Archimedo ) Seguso , compared acid stamped rough diamond pencil signing

i got no trouble with this it,s half authorised ( namely seguso) and we haven,t much of an escape here

Livio Zanetti got nothing to do with he is almost never in alexandrite and signed his pieces , 2 characters or fully signed , and a different tonality

actually i don,t see wath Pino Signoretto got to de do with this maybe i overlooked something or someone mixed him up with An Vergogna piece , Pino always signed , and is only in his puberty related for not to long to Seguso, got his own studio later and after that he was in the Oggeti pieces

i like this best guess is end 1960, maybe the date is a bit of , but for the rest we are committed IMO

Hi APOSTATA …. many thanks for these kind comments. The Signoretto reference comes from a similar piece but in citrine yellow posted by RICK55 posted here on Collectors’ Weekly.

WTF is this the seller wants to sell a so called signoretto and you mention the signature but you won,t show , i think he is just playing games ( invaluable site) . i did,not see what i missed
    19. vetraio50 vetraio50, 2 years ago
I actually found the Signoretto signature here : https://handblownmurano.com/pino-signoretto-signed-blown-hot-glass-male-sculpture-figure-italy-murano.htm

well , it seemed you proved irrefutable evidence, actually it seems that my mistake is even bigger , because then it is probably mcm from the chiluly collaboration period

i think you are right , and i am wrong, it still don,t understand nothing of this, because it gets the status of a stray, and i see there are more strays, why signing a stray , with Seguso

i believe Kiki Smith ordered this type of pieces , as far as i know they neverleft Italy, but i can,t substatiate , so i shut to up prevent further major mistakes of me
    21. apostata apostata, 2 years ago
pffff maybe this could be a possibility , tried Corning assistant pieces , japanese exposition pieces, asked the the expert Luca Ricci ( he got a bigger sampling) he also never seen this before

WE tought if you got official Oggettistica , and the label got lost the co signing still remains Seguso , so we run the Oggettistica , the co-signing , but suffix vetri is mandatory

He told me there are different emissions , i did not knew actually , he does, not think it is a stray, he has never seen this this way , we agree about the quality , well that must be enough compensation because some real signoretto is bagger ( garbage), i still see no problems, i now i go to bed, because my head is toast
    22. apostata apostata, 2 years ago
sorry for all the confusion but we just don,t know, your guess is as good as ours
    23. vetraio50 vetraio50, 2 years ago
I thank you so much APOSTATA. I respect your opinions immensely. The signature is a bit of an anomaly … but Livio’s signature is a bit more florid. It is the ‘g’ that interests me …. It is old fashioned. But I like mysteries. I prefer them to the run of the mill.
