Hi! This trunk came with my new 51 Chevy truck, I am so new to trunks, yet can't wait to dive into the restoration...can anyone help me with any information about this trunk? I think it's a steamer trunk, not sure, love the burlap, letters on the side, seems to say Southern something, I would appreciate any info, can't wait to get started..fun! Thanks, Tracy :)

probably European possibly Canadian, it is a canvas covered trunk, the course grain of the canvas tells me that it is not American, American canvas had a much finer tighter grain, also the metal handles say European, looks like #1 latches, american made but were used by European trunk makers also the slat clamps look american, patented around 1870, could be late 1890's to early 1900's, without a makers label hard to say who the maker was.

Thank you Greendog :) Can't wait to start bringing it back to life, the hardware looks copper, under all the grunge...will be looking out for any patent numbers when I clean up the hardware...thank you!
