The larger of the two bells is made of gun metal ( a type of bronze, some times called red brass) and was used on a steam locomotive. When rung in an enclosed area, like the enclosed porch that it is in, you have to hold your ears, because, even though it sounds great, it is quite loud.
The smaller bell is nickel plates brass, it has a beautiful sound also. This bell is meant to be stationary ( not swing). You ring this bell by tugging on the clapper using a cord or cable by the operator. I believe, but am not sure, that this is a bell from an early fire truck, mainly because of the way it is rung and the fact that it is nickel plated. any better ideas as to what it might have come off of is appreciated.
Great Bells :)
