This is one of the earlier decorations to received the factory designation "Ausführung" (version, or made in the manner of). The Ausf. series, generally characterized by some sort of refinement made to the glass at the furnace, begin in about 1907. Ausführung 2 is characterized by a smooth crystal ground covered with a lattice of glass threads, in which the horizontal threads are carefully controlled and spaced, and the vertical threads are a little more randomly spaced in an up-and-down zig-zag type of application. Sometimes, as in this case, there are additional applied elements, such as the applied candia Silberiris base with four vertical thorny branches wrapped in horizontal glass "vines". This particular shape dates to about 1908, and it is found in three different sizes, each of which has its own Production Number (PN) assigned. This is the smaller size (6239/5"), which is actually exactly 14 cm, or about 5.5", tall, and about 6" in diameter. The other difference between this size and the larger versions is that this one has four vertical thorny branches; the larger sizes have five. The rim is fire polished, and the base has a ground and polished pontil. I think these are almost certainly made, if not as a design, certainly under the influence of, Loetz factory manager Eduard Prochaska, who was documented to have designed similar executions in the year this shape was put into production. (compare to Ausf. 36 (1908) and 143 (1913)).
