This was my Great Grandfather's (born late 1890s) travel trunk, I believe. However it could be even older than that. Looking for any details that could be provided on make and year. It was painted a terrible brown that we have stripped off to revel the metal. Inside the lid and under the locks are sorted coloring which if research is correct could possibly indicated this was a mottled design? Does that give an indication of year? My great grandfather was from Belgium before immigrating to US in early 1900s. Inside wallpaper is very old and peeling. No idea if original or not.

    Thank you!

Definitely not before 1890 and I would say early 1900's, just looking at the hardware on it, this style of trunk wasn't made until later, 1890's to 1900's this is a very common style trunk made by hundreds of trunk makers at the time, without a label hard to say who the maker was.

Also FYI, this is not a steamer trunk, this was a travel trunk, a steamer trunk was of a specific size and shape, usually no more then 14 inches high and around 30 to 36 inches long, they were designed to fit under the berth/bunk of a steamer ship, hence the name steamer trunk.
