This was purchased by me at a farm auction in Illinois many years ago. I have tried in vain for many years to find it's purpose. If someone could enlighten me I would very much appreciate it.

Picture two shows a track that guides something up to the plunger.
What ever it was piercing had to be soft.

Did the farm where you bought this have a sugar bush? In case you aren't aware, a sugar bush is an orchard of maple trees used to gather sap and make maple syrup.

I doubt that there were many maples on this farm. It is flat, open and some of the best farm land in the world

When I first saw this I thought harpoon!! After reconsidering, carpet stretcher came to mind!! Maybe even a barbed wire fencing tool!! Please keep in mind, these are all uneducated guesses!!

lptools this is very much like a tool used to tap, install and uninstall a spile in a maple tree. It is also a close relative of a tool used to install and remove glass insulators when working on an electric fence. Darned if I can remember the name of it. Getting old......hell already got old.

Hello, fhrjr2. You sure don't sound old!! But if that is the case, I am old too, for I know what a spile is!! Removing insulators makes sense too, with the wood handles. Regards, Lou

I think it is an automatic tack feed and hammer for carpet. Are there points on the underside to push the carpet, with a knob or handle to drive the round rod when a tack is fed down the tube?
