In my last post of a shoemaker's lasting pliers I said I would show some of the more common type. Here are 8 examples in different sizes. The projecting heel in this case acts as the pivot and also as a small hammer for tacks. The pliers in the last picture works in a similar way but is for pulling off old soles.
Looking at the variety of pliers
I keep my mouth closed tight
with my teeth inside
the hammer part is to knock you out,.. so the can pull your corns off...cant fool me ...nice little collection ...'-))
Nice group!! Any markings? C S Osborne ?? W M Johnson??
Thanks for the comments. To answer your question lptools, some have no markings and some are too worn to read, or maybe my eyesight isn't up to it any more. The only one I can read is George Barnsley, an English maker.
With the help of a magnifying glass I managed to read another maker's name; Penton & Sons, London.
