Several years ago, I posted a few of my vintage cast iron cap bomb collection dated from 1890 to 1910. Here is another cap bomb that was used in carnival shows.
Known as a "carnival cane" , it was loaded with a roll of cap gun caps and every time the user slapped the cane to the ground. it would fire off a cap with a bang, then index the roll in readiness to fire off another bang.
These canes were sold as a toy to youngsters, but, they were often sold to carnival barkers to get the attention of fair and carnival goers to pay attention to their pitch and this attention would entice the crowd to enter their show tent.
Made by the National Amusement & Toy Co. Patented on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1908
How do I know it was a Tuesday?
Patents were always issued on Tuesday.
P.S. (you may be able to win a bet for a shot and a beer at your local bar room with this Tuesday patent info.)
Love it! This is great!
