Got these out of an old toolbox. Small Thumbscrew Vice?? Did it have a handle or is it a hardy that goes into a small anvil???? Is the pliers style tool for leather??? See closeups. It squeezes something into a concave pocket???
Stuff
Your hand vice had a wooden handle originally, I will post a pic of one soon. The other item is a shoe maker's lasting pliers. Coincidentally I posted some lasting pliers recently (about a week ago) , The two little arms on this one act as the pivot giving more flexibility when the leather is being stretched onto the wooden last. Really nice example and probably a rarer type.
nice rust .....lol looking cool, nice find ....your shop open ..?
Sorry No!! Selling it!! Moving South!! Time for us old Farts to retire!!
Stuff
Stuff, I have experimented with this pliers to see how it works. The "feet" sit flat on the sole of the last with the jaws pointing down. The edge of the leather upper is gripped in the jaws and strained onto the last in the usual way with the points of the "feet" acting as fulcrums. At a certain stage the pliers turns in the outer section allowing the jaws to come closer to the the last and draw the leather flat across the sole of the last. A very cleverly designed tool.
Glad you like it!!!! Glad it's not a " What's It" anymore!!!
and has a good home!!
