This Chinese fake Japanese boxwood netsuke is 39mm long x 28mm wide x 25mm high. Still waiting on this. I bought it several weeks ago but it is hung up in the Covid shipping slowdown. I was just curious to see what the quality of these are and happy I am not a netsuke collector if these are any good. Looks like they might easily be reworked to fool the inexperienced collector. Very inexpensive from China, but still cute. Guess it counts as netsuke, even though it is contemporary Chinese manufacture?

Why not? The ever enterprising Chinese reproductions are plentiful, some are still worth having, I'm also buying things from Hong Kong. No guess work involved....lol

Some of these modern Chinese netsuke are very sweet. I have one myself (a small mouse drinking out of the spout of a teapot). The nice thing about these affordable pieces is that you can enjoy them without fretting about value or damage. It's so pleasant to hold them and turn them over in the hands.

@truthordare - Yeah, but at the yard sale after my demise it will probably be sold as Japanese! Maybe I am overthinking this..

@rhineisfine - Agree! It will be interesting to see how good the quality of this piece is.. There are lots of other options for these, too, if this one is not up to snuff..

Thanks for looking at my Chinese netsuke bobby725, Ben, Kevin, glassiegirl, rhineisfine, fortapache, RichmondLori, truthordare, Thomas, Jenni and Watchsearcher!

I can't blame anyone for wanting one of these, after all I'm sure we all have repros of various things, and this really looks nice.
Problems are when they are sold as original to the unwary and most of us have been caught by that at times too.
Enjoy it Kevin and let us know how it is when it arrives!

Thanks for your comment, Karen! I've already seen these being offered for a couple of hundred dollars as Japanese. Not sure if the sellers are scammers or scammed. That is why I am glad I don't collect these!

This netsuke made it from China to my city but the seller didn't put my street address on the package, just my name and city, so the post office sent it back to China! The seller is sending me a replacement.
